The suburb of Newport is located at the foot of the Barrenjoey Peninsula and is the last suburb before Barrenjoey Road heads up to Bilgola Plateau – locally known as The Bends, a peak hour bottleneck of single lane road topped with a four-way roundabout. Newport started life as a beachside holiday destination that was service by a ferry from Circular Quay and continued to be an outpost after the Harbour Bridge was opened. Even as late as the early 1960’s Newport was without mains water or sewage.

Newport Primary School is renowned for it’s long running music programme which has been further developed at Pittwater High School. There are several sailing school and both Newport and Pittwater offer sailing as part of their sports curriculum.
