Tucked away behind the suburb of Brookvale and nestled in between suburbs like Forestville, Killarney Heights, and North Manly, you’ll find the beautiful suburb of Allambie Heights. It’s a relaxed, family-oriented suburb with a corridor of lovely suburban housing, overlooking picturesque natural parks and bushland surrounds. The suburb is 17km northeast of the Sydney CBD and has cultivated an insular, community-centred atmosphere with ample services and places to visit. Bordered by bigger suburbs with plenty to offer themselves, you’ll never be too far from anything important.

A little slice of paradise

Ranked as the 6th best suburb in Greater Sydney, Allambie Heights is a great place to settle down—whether that means with a family, for retirement, or simply as a quiet place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD without being too far from anything essential. Homes have a larger average area of land, many in beautiful districts with grand ocean views. A small business area means you’ll never be short of the essentials.
Manly Warringah National Park—or Manly Dam Reserve—occupies a little less than half of the total suburb area, but this only enhances the area’s nature-nestled vibe. As of 2016, there were just over 7,000 residents in the suburb—a perfect size for those looking for a quiet community in which to live.

Steeped in history

The ‘Allambie’ in the suburb’s name is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘peaceful place’, and aptly so; the area has remained so for 100 years of European settlement. Just off Allambie Road sits Gumbooya Reserve, which holds  no less than 68 historic Aboriginal rock carvings for those Australian history buffs. Gumbooya Reserve was thought to have been an ancient track used by Aboriginal Australians to get to nearby Manly beach. The suburb also has some more modern attachments to history; the heritage-listed Manly Warringah War Memorial Park (or Manly Dam Reserve) was established after World War I to host still-ongoing annual remembrance celebrations. Many of Allambie Heights’ streets are also named after notable battles or prominent leaders of World War II, e.g. Tobruk Avenue, Churchill Crescent, or Moresby Place.

Where nature thrives

Whilst Manly Dam Reserve is the more popular destination and is full of recreational opportunities for families (picnic areas, tennis courts, sports fields, etc.), it is the nearby Allenby Park which really shows off the area’s astonishing natural beauty. With coachwood rainforests and stunning waterfalls, the park is a natural habitat for some rare and endangered species (thanks to the efforts of local bush regeneration groups). It offers various walking trails to make you forget you’re in Sydney. Derna Crescent runs along the edge of the park, and properties there have unfettered bush views and access to the natural beauty the suburb provides.

Goods, services, and essentials

Natural beauty aside, one of Allambie Heights’ most attractive qualities is its convenience—the suburb’s main business area boasts an IGA, newsagent, delicatessen, bakery, and several home-style local restaurants that are ever-popular haunts for residents. For family and aged care services, the area isn’t lacking either—with three different schools, an aquatic centre, a community centre, and various retirement villages and care centres for the disabled, residents’ needs are met at every stage of life.
With Warringah Mall just down the road and hubs like Manly or Brookvale so close by, the suburb has remained largely untouched by commercial development. Wakehurst Parkway and Pittwater Road provide easy access to North Sydney, Chatswood and the City proper. But for everyday living, residents will find that everything they need is already right upon their doorstep.

Public transport

As with all the Northern Beaches suburbs, there is no rail service. However, there are no shortage of bus services; nearby Pittwater Road has a constant stream of Express buses at all hours of the day and well into the night, with the city only just a 30-40-minute bus ride away. With Manly and Brookvale as nearby hubs and several beautiful beaches only a 5- or 10-minute drive away, living in Allambie Heights is a convenient location.

Ensconced between bustling suburbs like Brookvale, Forestville, and Manly Vale, Allambie Heights is the perfect place for families looking for a relaxed and safe community that’s only a hop, skip, and a jump away from the buzz of Sydney city life.  A high demand suburb with a good (6.5%) compound growth rate, average house price of $1,715,000, and average rental return of $868 p/w, the area is a great place for those looking to buy, rent, or invest.
